Yes please! Just saw these questions in an email:

"Is there a technical Mozillian in the Boston area who might be interested in attending? Or an intern who's in the same time zone?"

Would be great if Mozillians.org could answer these quickly and easily.

I am thinking that this would be another field in the user’s profile called “Current City” or “Current Location”.

The question is, how do we populate it so that Strings can remain consistent across SUMO? I am thinking of implementing some sort of a city directory that user can type and then pick from a list.

This way, cities can actually be searched in a helpful way, and there’s no room for and typing mistakes inconsistencies.

The Mozilla Reps portal does this very nicely by allowing you to enter City, State and optionally point in a map. The result is https://reps.mozilla.org/people/

Note the inclusion of:
* Timezone (which relates to bug 692846)
* Number of members (this is essentially the number of search results)
* MozSpace address, if it exists (nice to have)

The search box autocomplete behavior for Location data was described in attachment 610454 [details].

The “What members have in common” a.k.a. “the most used tag in the search result” field is gone, replaced by a map.

Hey Bram,

Here's my feedback as well as a few questions:

* Some of the contact information listed in the mock-ups aren't available (i.e. Jot Title and Contact button). I'd suggest leaving them out of the mock-ups as they don't really match what any of the feedback we've received so far.
* The bio section isn't going to be too useful. How about we list things like "irc nickname" and "primary e-mail address" instead?
* Are the mock-ups in Comment #6 and #5 listed as alternatives or for different use cases?

Sounds good. I was originally thinking that the “Job Title” and “I Work On” fields will be needed to reduce feature parity between Mozillians and our internal Phonebook. It’s a very long-term goal, but I figure that it’s best to add what we can now.

I agree that IRC and email are both more helpful to look at than bio, especially in the search result pages, so I revised those fields. Bonus: the size for each result becomes smaller, which means more space-saving.

They’re listed as alternatives. We can have either one. The one with the map will give user geographical context, which may be important for planning and figuring out whether this city is close to that city, and how close? The group cloud will encourage user to click around and explore. Exploration is important, but Phonebook is designed as a utility that people can get in, do their thing and get out of as quickly as possible, so I think that the map is a more helpful info.

This is code complete and r+, it needs to be merged in once the vagrant dependencies are taken care of.

This is huge, and in the interest of getting the minimal necessary features in by the end of the quarter, it's getting split up, so this bug is now a tracker.
